The Masquerade Ball
-Taylor Geist
This fall, SouthLake Christian Academy hosted another great Homecoming dance after a week of fun and festivities. The Student Council had planned a masquerade ball for this year’s theme. Before the dance, students went out to dinners to socialize and have a night out free of school work. The ticket for entrance was a masque that the students could decorate to match their attire. As decoration, classes designed and decorated large masks to hang up. Strings of lights lit the gym with colored spotlights on the masks. After admiring the great makeover of a sports gym to a beautiful dance floor, students got ready to have a great time. One of the best parts of Homecoming was that no matter what grade everyone was in, if they went with a date, or in a group of friends when the songs start everyone was one big group. A personal favorite was the Macarena. Old songs, new songs, fast songs, and slow songs were all played so no matter the students various tastes there was a song that everyone could dance to. Even those with less talented dance moves (myself included) were able to bop along to the songs. And for those less comfortable with putting themselves out there on the dance floor, tables and chairs gave students a chance to sit around and talk. The water bottles disappeared really fast because of the fact that everyone was dancing the night away. This spectacular night was one for the books. It was a great way to wrap up the activities of SouthLake’s Homecoming week.
